Position Title: Registered Dietitian
Reports To: Executive Director of Counseling & Psychological Services and Director of Sports Medicine
JOB SUMMARY:
The Registered Dietitian works in connection with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and Flames Performance Health/ Club Sports at Liberty University. This role will serve half their time with CAPS and the other half with Club Sports. The primary function of the Registered Dietitian is to provide students with education, nutritional counsel, and emotional support that integrates a biblical worldview as well as size-inclusive and eating disorder informed care. The Registered Dietitian serves as a consultant to Club Sports to provide in-facility 1-on-1 counsel to student-athletes, provide team education talks, assist coaches in developing meal options while on the road. The Registered Dietitian will participate in multi-disciplinary treatment teams alongside medical, mental health, and athletic care providers. The Registered Dietitian will be responsible to provide support to students with disordered eating, body dysmorphia, and other mental health concerns impacting their ability and understanding of how to eat appropriate to their needs. The Registered Dietitian is responsible for updating electronic files and keeping complete and accurate records of student sessions including progress notes and clinical reports, which consist of assessment information, treatment plans and summary of termination. The Registered Dietitian is also involved in originating, planning, coordinating, and implementing educational programs and experiential groups for the student population as they relate to mental health and disordered eating.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide students with appropriate dietetic counseling from a Christian perspective.
- Provide dietetic counsel utilizing non-diet and Intuitive Eating approaches.
- Participate in ongoing continuing education surrounding disordered eating and trauma-informed approaches to student care.
- Discuss limits of confidentiality with each student in relation to treatment by the Registered Dietitian and the respective care team.
- Maintain client confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Assess classification and severity of student’s symptoms.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the medical consequences of eating disorders, recognizing symptoms of medical complication, and utilizing appropriate intervention and prevention.
- Evaluate client use of compensatory behaviors including exercise, vomiting, colonic cleanses, diuretic use, laxative use, diet pill use, and/or insulin adjustments.
- Assists in assessing appropriateness of physical activities including collaborative plans to implement and monitor if necessary.
- Collaborate regularly within various medical, mental health, and athletic treatment teams to provide holistic care to student wellness.
- Document progress notes in the designated Electronic Medical Records system.
- Prepare clinical reports (assessment information, case conceptualization, diagnoses, treatment plans and summary of termination).
- Participate in athletic team meetings as designated by the athletic trainer.
- Participate in the continued development of office treatment teams and programming as they pertain to nutrition, body dysmorphia, diet culture, and eating disorders.
- Provide education to students surrounding mental health and cultural impacts as they pertain to nutrition.
- Communicate any emergencies to the Executive Director and/or Club Sports Athletic Training staff as necessary.
- Prepare curriculum for and facilitate educational and experiential groups for students.
- Assess satisfaction and learning outcomes of groups through surveys and assessment materials.
- Assess for appropriate levels of care and refer accordingly.
- Assists in creating occasional social media content for club sports accounts.
- Assists Club Sports Athletic Training with all aspects of providing comprehensive nutrition services to all Liberty University Club Sport student-athletes. Including: comprehensive nutrition assessments, implementing individual and team nutrition plans, providing nutrition education to individuals and teams; creating and updating nutrition education materials, advising athletes on dietary supplements/ergogenic aid use.
- Collaborates with Athletic Trainers and/or sport coaches for team nutrition needs while traveling.
- Maintain communication with coaching staff and Athletic Trainers relative to athletic nutrition issues as needed.
- May occasionally host interns or practicum students for academic integration.
